What Is DRFTID — And Is It For You?
A brand built for the ones who have always been between worlds
The name is missing letters.
D-R-F-T-I-D. No vowels. No apology. That is not a design mistake — it is the whole point.
DRFTID is short for drifted. The vowels were left out deliberately, because when you move — between countries, between cultures, between versions of yourself — you always leave something behind. The vowels are what got left. What remains is still you. Still whole. Still moving.
This is a brand for the ones who know exactly what that feels like.
The Name Explained
Most people hear DRFTID and pause. They try to pronounce it. They ask what it means. That pause is intentional.
The word is built from what remains after departure. Every time you leave a place — a country, a school, a community, a language — something stays behind. A version of you gets left in the city you moved away from. A language you once spoke fluently starts to require effort. A friendship that existed in a specific context cannot fully survive the distance. The vowels are those things. The consonants — the bones of the word — are what you carry forward.
DRFTID is the part of you that survived every drift. The part that is entirely yours.
Say it out loud. Drifted. That past tense is important. It means most of us have already done it. We have already crossed oceans, switched languages, rebuilt ourselves somewhere new, and come out the other side carrying more worlds than most people will ever understand.
The Tagline: Everywhere. Nowhere. Yours.
Three words. Each one is a truth.
Everywhere — because you carry every place you have ever been. The cities do not leave you when you leave them. They become part of how you read a room, how you make friends, how you understand what is happening beneath the surface of a conversation. You are from everywhere you have ever been.
Nowhere — because none of those places fully contains you. You hold a passport for a country that feels like a country of origin rather than a home. You return to places you used to live and feel the specific disorientation of being a tourist somewhere you once belonged. You fit everywhere and nowhere simultaneously.
Yours — because that complexity is not a flaw. It is not a problem to solve or a wound to heal. It is an identity, and it belongs to you. It was built by every departure, every arrival, every in-between. It is the most honest version of who you are.
Who DRFTID Is Built For
Third Culture Kids
If you grew up between cultures — because a parent's work took the family abroad, because you immigrated as a child, because you were raised in a country that was not your parents' home country — you are a third culture kid. The term was coined by sociologist Ruth Hill Useem in the 1950s. It describes the hybrid identity that forms when a child grows up between worlds: not the culture of the parents, not the culture of the country, but something that is entirely its own.
DRFTID was built for you. For the one who has always had a complicated answer to the question 'where are you from?' For the one who code-switches without thinking. For the one who misses places they left years ago with an intensity that is difficult to explain.
Expats and Global Nomads
If you have built your adult life across multiple countries — if home is less a place than a collection of people spread across several time zones — you are part of the DRFTID community. The expat experience and the global nomad experience are different from the TCK experience in some ways, but the core emotional reality is the same: the complexity of belonging to more than one world, and the specific kind of freedom and grief that comes with that.
Immigrants and Diaspora Communities
If you or your family left a home country to build a new life elsewhere — if you grew up carrying a heritage culture alongside the culture of the country you were raised in — the DRFTID community is yours. The diaspora experience is one of the richest and most under-represented identity experiences in fashion and culture. DRFTID exists partly to change that.
Bicultural and Multicultural People
If you have two or more cultural inheritances — from parents of different backgrounds, from a childhood spent in diverse communities, from years of living between cultures as an adult — DRFTID is for you. The brand is built on the idea that multicultural identity is not a confusion to resolve but a richness to own.
Anyone Who Has Ever Felt Between
You do not need a specific label to belong here. If you have ever felt like you were too much for one place and not enough for another — if you have ever built yourself out of pieces from multiple worlds and wondered whether the result was allowed to call itself whole — you are DRFTID. The community is wider than any single identity category. What connects it is the experience of the in-between.
Why Now
Third culture kids, expats, immigrants, and multicultural individuals represent hundreds of millions of people worldwide. They are some of the most educated, internationally connected, and culturally sophisticated people on earth. And until now, almost no brand has built something specifically for them.
Not clothing that happens to work across cultures. Not streetwear that is simply neutral enough to wear anywhere. Something built with genuine understanding of what it means to live between worlds.
You are not lost. You are not confused. You are not too much for one world. You are DRFTID — shaped by everywhere, owned by nowhere, whole anyway.
If this is your story — welcome to DRFTID. 🖤
Everywhere. Nowhere. Yours.
